High Flyer's Hill

The view from High Flyer's Hill across Bracknell Forest is genuinely worth the climb - assuming you can find it without a proper map, which is half the battle. It's a peak walk rather than a dramatic summit, the sort of place where you feel like you've earned a breather even though you're only a few hundred feet up. On a clear day, the vista across the Berkshire woodland is proper rewarding, all rolling green and far-off horizons.

This is walker territory, no question. Families will appreciate the relatively modest ascent and the payoff at the top, though small children might find the lack of facilities a bit tedious. History buffs won't get much from it - there's no castle or ancient settlement to justify a lengthy detour. But if you're staying at one of the caravan parks dotted around Windsor, Chertsey, or Warfield way, this makes a solid afternoon sortie without needing to stray far from base.

Bring proper boots if you're going after rain - the forest floor gets boggy. Allow a couple of hours round trip if you're taking your time and actually enjoy the view rather than racing up and down. It's free, obviously, and there are no opening hours to worry about since it's just a walk. The nearest town is Windsor, which means you're well placed for other attractions in the area if the weather turns.

Worth doing once if you're in the neighbourhood, but don't rearrange your whole trip to get here.
