Henhills Copse

A proper woodland walk rather than a destination in itself, Henhills Copse sits just outside Wedmore in Somerset and gives you exactly what you'd expect from a small copse - dense trees, leaf litter, and the kind of quiet that makes you remember why you came to the countryside. The paths wind through beech and oak, nothing dramatic, but on a grey afternoon it's rather peaceful. You won't find signage or facilities here, which is either brilliant or disappointing depending on your mood. For families with young kids, it's a solid half-hour outing before heading into Wedmore proper for cake. Keen walkers treating this as a loop around the village will appreciate the break from roads, though it doesn't rank among Somerset's standout woodland experiences. The best time is autumn when the beech turns proper gold, or spring when the floor's carpeted in bluebells and wild garlic. Allow 45 minutes if you're taking it slow, less if you're just stretching legs.
