The woods east of Stevenage aren't going to take your breath away, but they're solid walking territory if you're camping nearby at Church Farm Ardeley. Heath Mount Stumble Trip Woods is essentially a quiet forest patch where the main appeal is getting your legs moving without fighting crowds.

You're looking at a proper woodland walk with decent tree cover and enough ground variation to keep things interesting. The paths are manageable rather than challenging, which works well if you've got children in tow or just fancy a gentle ramble after a few days on the campsite. Allow a couple of hours if you're not rushing.

Historically there's not much to grab onto here - it's forest, not fortress - so this is walkers' territory, not history buffs. Families with young kids will get a decent hour out of it before the novelty of trees and sticks wears thin. The real win is the proximity to Church Farm Ardeley. Rather than driving somewhere flashy for a woodland fix, you can head straight out the campsite gate and be under the canopy within minutes.

Timing-wise, autumn's your best bet when the light filters properly through the leaves. Muddy as hell in winter though, so bring boots.
