Hazel Wood

A proper woodland walk through dense Kent forest, Hazel Wood sits just outside Faversham and delivers exactly what it promises - trees, quiet, and the occasional shaft of light cutting through the canopy. It's the sort of place where you can actually hear yourself think, which feels rarer by the year.

The woodland itself is straightforward: well-defined paths wind through mixed deciduous forest, mostly beech and hazel (obviously), with enough variation to keep the eye engaged without requiring special botanical knowledge. Walkers will get the most from this - it's not a destination with viewpoints or monuments, just a good solid chunk of forest to move through. Families with younger kids might find it a bit one-note after 45 minutes unless they're the type to stop and investigate every fallen log.

There's no visitor centre or facilities that I'm aware of, so come prepared with water and sturdy shoes. The woodland is free to access, though exact opening hours aren't clearly posted - best treated as a dawn-to-dusk spot. Allow a couple of hours to do it properly rather than just bashing through.

If you're based at either Painters Farm Camping Site or Chegworth Mill Glamping nearby, this is a natural morning or late-afternoon break from camp life. It pairs well with a Faversham town visit - grab a coffee there, walk the wood, back for supper. Not transformative, but solid.
