Hawick South Church - St Mary's

St Mary's in Hawick is one of those proper Victorian churches that stops you mid-stride on a Sunday walk through town. Built in the 1860s, it's got that red sandstone solidity you find all over the Borders - not flashy, just unambiguously there.

The interior's where it gets interesting. High ceilings, decent stained glass, and the kind of organ that actually sounds like something rather than just making noise. It's the work of someone who cared about proportions and light, which you notice straightaway when you step inside from Hawick's main drag.
