The views across Hertfordshire from the top are decent - rolling countryside stretching out in that soft, understated way English hills tend to do. It's the kind of place where you notice the light changes across farmland rather than gasp at precipitous drops.

Walkers will find this a straightforward afternoon outing. Families with younger kids get a manageable walk that doesn't drag on endlessly, though teenagers might find it a bit tame if they're expecting drama. The ground's generally pleasant underfoot and the route is clear enough that you won't spend half your time consulting maps. Allow a couple of hours if you're pottering about and taking photos.

If you're basing yourself at one of the nearby parks - Aldenham Country Park is genuinely good value and well-positioned - Harrow Hill makes a sensible add-on to your itinerary rather than a destination in itself. Home Farm Glamping and Heritage Park Homes at Bushey Hall Park are both closer still. The hill works best as part of a wider walking day, paired with exploring the local villages or tackling some of the other countryside around Borehamwood. Go on a clear day and you'll appreciate it. Go when it's flat and grey and you'll wonder why you bothered.
