Harold Park

Harold Park sits on the outskirts of Bradford and is one of those reserves that catches you off guard with how decent it actually is. You get proper woodland walks, open grassland, and a real sense of being away from the city despite hearing the odd rumble of traffic in the distance.

The paths are well-maintained and easy to follow, which means families with younger kids won't struggle. There are enough different routes to keep a couple of hours ticking over without feeling stretched, though it's not the sort of place you'd set aside an entire day for unless you're combining it with something else nearby. Birdwatchers tend to have the best time here - the mix of trees and open ground attracts decent numbers of species throughout the year.

It's free to access, which is the first point in its favour. Parking is straightforward enough if you know where the main entrance is. Spring and early summer are when the reserve comes alive properly, though winter visits have their own appeal if you don't mind the bare trees.
