Harehills Lane Baptist Church

The red-brick Victorian chapel on Harehills Lane is one of Leeds's finest examples of 19th-century nonconformist architecture, tucked away in a residential corner of the city. Built in 1839, it's all soaring arches, ornate plasterwork, and that particular warmth brick gets when it's weathered a hundred-plus winters properly. The interior rewards a visit - if you can arrange one - with a gallery level, original pulpit, and enough period detail to keep architecture buffs absorbed for a good half hour.

This isn't a turn-up-and-wander sort of place. You'll need to contact the church directly to view inside, which does require a bit of planning.
