Hare Law

The walk up Hare Law from Kinross is properly rewarding - a brisk climb that doesn't drag on forever but leaves you feeling like you've actually done something. The summit sits at just over 300 metres, which means the views across the Forth Valley open up without requiring proper fell-walker credentials.

On a clear day you'll see right across to the Ochil Hills and beyond. The moorland setting feels genuinely wild despite being so accessible from town, and the walking is straightforward enough for families with decent legs, though younger children might find the ascent tedious. Allow a solid hour each way, plus time to sit about at the top if the weather's behaving.

This works brilliantly as a half-day activity if you're staying at Wild Goose Glamping or Kingdom Caravan Park nearby. Both are within easy striking distance, so you could knock it out before lunch and have the afternoon free for something less vertical. The peak itself is free - no fees, no gates, just park sensibly in Kinross and get going.

Best tackled in spring or autumn when the moorland colour's decent and you won't be battling summer midges. Winter's fine too if you catch a frost that clears the view. Summer can feel a bit damp and muggy up there. It's not a destination hike, but it's an excellent addition to a Fife park holiday if you fancy getting some air in your lungs.
