Hare Clump

A thick wedge of woodland between Peterstone and the Norfolk countryside, Hare Clump is the sort of place locals know about but most visitors drive straight past. It's proper forest - dense enough that you lose sight of the surrounding fields within minutes of entering, which feels like a minor miracle in this part of East Anglia where space tends to feel open and exposed.

There's no visitor centre or marked trails here, just a working woodland where you can park up and walk among the trees. The going is easy enough underfoot, and it's genuinely quiet - you might genuinely see hares bounding through the undergrowth if you're lucky early in the morning. The light filters through in that particular way it does in Norfolk forests, everything slightly green and soft.

This is ideal for a couple of hours if you're staying nearby - say, at Pinewoods Holiday Park just down the road - and you want to stretch your legs without any faffing about with visitor facilities. Kids will either love it or get bored within twenty minutes depending on whether they're the exploring type. Serious walkers won't find it challenging, but it's genuinely restorative after a day of Norfolk's flatter attractions.
