Harbord Plantation

Harbord Plantation is a proper woodland walk east of Sandringham - the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think, which in Norfolk is becoming rarer by the year. It's a working forest with paths that meander through mature trees, and the canopy does that lovely job of blocking out the world for a couple of hours.

The main draw here is straightforward: you get a decent walk without crowds. It's ideal for anyone who wants to stretch their legs in actual woodland rather than a manicured country estate. Families with young children will manage fine on most of the paths, though it's not a pram-friendly affair everywhere. History buffs won't find much to get excited about - this is just trees, not Turner's stately home - but walkers of a certain age find it genuinely restorative.

You're looking at a one to two hour visit depending on which routes you take. There's no obvious visitor infrastructure that I could find, so bring what you need. It's free to walk, which is refreshing.

The real advantage is proximity to the caravan parks clustered nearby. Pinecones Caravan & Camping sits just 2.4 miles south and has solid reviews. If you're based there for a week, Harbord makes a cracking half-day break from the usual Sandringham circuit. Happy Valley's glamping option is slightly further out but worth considering if you want something a bit different. Pop into the forest between breakfast and lunch, avoid the afternoon crush at the big attractions, and you've got yourself a proper Norfolk day.
