Hanslope Recreation Ground

The rec ground at Hanslope is one of those places you'll drive past dozens of times without really knowing what you're missing. It's a proper nature reserve wrapped around the village, with open grassland, woodland, and a decent stretch of the Great Ouse running through it - the kind of spot where you might actually spot something interesting if you're patient.

There's a network of footpaths threading through, nothing too demanding, which makes it solid for families who don't fancy a full-on countryside march. Kids usually enjoy the water frontage, and if you're into birdwatching or just wanting to kill a couple of hours between other activities, it does the job. The woodland sections feel properly managed rather than scrappy, and the riverside walk is genuinely pleasant without being showy about it.

It's free, obviously - it's a recreation ground - and you can spend as little or as long as you want wandering around. An hour will show you the main bits; two hours if you're a slow walker or like to sit and observe. Best visited outside school holidays if you want any peace, though it's never rammed.

If you're based at The Home Farm CL or Ekeney House Campsite nearby, this fits nicely into a morning before heading towards Milton Keynes or exploring the wider area. It's not the sort of place you'd travel across the county for specifically, but if you're already in Northamptonshire, it's well worth the detour. No pretense, just decent green space.
