The farm takes its name from its grim past - it was once home to the local executioner, and the gallows that gave the place its reputation are long gone, but the story hasn't faded.

What you're actually looking at is a traditional stone farmhouse and surrounding fields, the sort of place that rewards a quiet walk more than it does a scheduled visit. There's no visitor centre or formal admission - you can appreciate it from the lane and the footpaths that cross nearby. History enthusiasts will find the backstory genuinely absorbing, particularly if you're interested in darker Yorkshire heritage and how rural communities functioned centuries ago.

The real appeal is context. Visit in autumn or early spring when the moorland around Clitheroe is at its best, and combine it with a proper walk through the valleys. The nearby camping spots - Calder Farm is barely two miles away and Hedgerow Luxury Glamping not much further - make it a natural stop during a longer ramble rather than a destination in itself.

Families with older kids who aren't squeamish about history will find it interesting for twenty minutes. Young children will simply see a farm. Go if you're in the area walking, not out of your way specially. The Ribble Valley has far better reasons to stop.
