The walk up to Hamilton's Folly rewards you with one of the best views across County Down, assuming you catch a clear day. This stone tower sits on a modest peak near Castlewellan, and while it's not a gruelling hike, the path can be boggy depending on recent weather. Allow yourself a good couple of hours including the climb and time to properly enjoy the vistas across the Mourne Mountains and out towards the coast.

What you're actually climbing for is the structure itself - a Victorian-era folly that stands as a genuine oddity in the landscape. It's not a ruin exactly, more a deliberate act of architectural whimsy. The tower's sturdy enough to approach, though there's nothing inside to explore. The real draw is the panorama.
