Hallimore Hill

The climb up Hallimore Hill takes longer than you'd expect for something barely 300 metres high, but that's rather the point. You're trudging through proper Surrey woodland, the kind that makes you forget you're only a few miles from Farnham's high street.

Once you reach the top, the views aren't dramatic - this is the South East, after all, not the Lake District. But on a clear day you get decent sight lines across the Weald, and there's something satisfying about standing at the highest point for miles around. The path itself is well-maintained, though muddy in winter and a bit steep towards the final stretch.

This works best for walkers who've got an afternoon to kill rather than families wanting a quick outing. Kids under eight will likely complain about the gradient, and you're not looking at a destination in itself - it's more something to tag onto a longer walk from Farnham or as a loop from Tilford Woods Lodge Retreat just five miles away. That particular park would give you decent base for mixing easy woodland ambles with proper hill walks.

Go early on a weekend to avoid the Surrey ramblers' brigade. The car parking situation near the base is tight, so arriving before 10 a.m. makes life simpler. You'll be up and down in about ninety minutes if you push it, which means you can spend the rest of the day exploring Farnham's town centre or the surrounding footpaths without much fuss.
