Hall Wood

A proper working forest just outside Sevenoaks, Hall Wood is the sort of place you can wander into without much fuss or fanfare. It's not a manicured visitor attraction - this is actual woodland where people cut timber and manage the land - but that's precisely what makes it interesting. The paths are well-trodden and straightforward enough, threading through mixed woodland with decent tree variety. You'll find yourself amongst oak, beech and conifers depending on which way you head.

It's ideal for walkers wanting something low-key, and families with older kids who won't get bored within twenty minutes. Bring binoculars if you're into birds. Allow a couple of hours to properly explore without rushing, though you can do a quick spin in 45 minutes if time's tight.

The real draw is how accessible it is from Sevenoaks - a proper alternative to the more touristy spots - and it slots nicely into a broader park holiday in the area. Badgells Wood Camping sits just 2.3 miles away, making Hall Wood an easy walk or short drive from your base. If you're after something slightly more curated, Gatehouse Wood Country Park is only 2.4 miles off, so you could combine both without any bother. It's free to access, which doesn't hurt either.

On balance, worth a detour if you're in the area and fancy some genuine woodland rather than another visitor centre.
