Ha' Hill

The climb up Ha' Hill isn't long, but it's steep enough to make your calves remind you they exist. Once you're up there though, the views across Northumberland are genuinely worth the huff and puff. You get proper views over the countryside towards Morpeth and beyond - the kind of vista that makes you understand why people bothered building settlements round here in the first place.

It's the sort of spot that rewards walkers without asking them to commit to a full-day trek. You can be up and back down in under an hour, which means it works brilliantly if you're based at Tranwell Farm Holidays or Hillside Huts & Cabins and fancy a proper leg-stretch without abandoning dinner plans. The top's got that exposed feel to it, so go on a clear day or you'll just be staring into cloud.

Families with kids who can manage a bit of gradient will find it manageable, though younger ones might find the walk back down tedious. History types won't find much to linger over once they've reached the top - it's a viewpoint, not a heritage site. But if you're staying in the area and want somewhere that genuinely shows off the landscape rather than just promising views from a car park, Ha' Hill does the job. No facilities up there, mind, so bring water and decent shoes.
