Guyhurst Copse

A proper woodland walk through native Sussex trees, Guyhurst Copse sits just outside Pulborough and delivers exactly what you'd hope for from a forest visit - shade, birdsong, and the kind of quiet that makes you remember why you came to the countryside in the first place. The trees are mature and well-established, creating that cathedral-like feel underfoot with carpet-soft leaf litter and good sight lines through the canopy.

It's best suited to walkers after a gentle ramble rather than families after a full day's entertainment. An hour here is realistic, maybe ninety minutes if you potter about identifying birds or taking photographs. There's nothing fancy - no visitor centre, no waymarked trails that I could see - just woodland in its straightforward form. That's either brilliant or a bit limiting depending on what you're after. Children old enough to enjoy a proper walk without constant novelty will get something from it; toddlers might struggle.

Pulborough's only a stone's throw away, which is handy for provisions and a decent lunch. If you're based at Washington Caravan Park or one of the other sites dotted round here, it makes a cracking morning or late afternoon outing to stretch your legs without straying far. The South Downs National Park is close by too, so this could easily slot into a broader walking holiday rather than being a destination in itself. Free to access and open to roaming - no faff with tickets or opening times.
