About Guinness Mountain
From the top you can see across County Down toward the coast on clear days. The moorland around it has that raw, windswept quality that appeals to walkers who've had enough of managed trails and visitor centres. Allow two to three hours for a steady round trip from the car park, depending on fitness and how often you stop to catch your breath.
It's very much a fair-weather proposition. In low cloud it becomes forgettable, and wet ground makes it slippy. Spring and autumn tend to work best - summer can be busy with tourists from nearby Castlewellan, and winter brings wind that'll test your resolve.
If you're camping at Slieve Croob or any of the local glamping sites, this makes an excellent morning out before heading to nearby parks or exploring the Mourne foothills proper. It's the sort of walk you'll do once and enjoy, but probably won't return to unless you're keen on ticking off every peak in the range.
