Grow Walkies - Roydon

A proper woodland walk that actually justifies the trip out to Roydon, just east of Ware. Grow Walkies is a designated nature trail where you can stretch your legs without worrying about getting completely lost or ending up on someone's private land. The paths wind through mixed woodland - nothing dramatic, but genuine enough if you're after something real rather than a manicured tourist attraction.

It works best for families with reasonably mobile kids and anyone who appreciates a straightforward woodland wander. You're looking at an hour or so to do it properly, longer if you stop to actually notice things. Spring is decent here, when the bluebells show up, though honestly it's pleasant enough year-round if the ground isn't waterlogged.

The route connects well if you're staying at The Wild Retreat at Redricks Lake or Toad Abode - both within a few miles - and gives you a break from the static caravan vibe without requiring a full day out. Park near Roydon and follow the markers. No entry fee as far as I can tell, which is refreshing. Bring proper shoes though; even on dry days these woodland paths can be properly muddy.

Truth is, it's a solid local walk rather than a destination in itself. If you're already in the area for the parks, do it. If you're travelling specifically for this, save your time and petrol. Better woodland walks exist elsewhere. But paired with a park stay nearby, it breaks up the week nicely.
