Griffiths Avenue Nature Reserve

A modest strip of woodland and meadow on the outskirts of Cheltenham, Griffiths Avenue Nature Reserve is the sort of place locals know and visitors often miss - which is rather a shame. Walking the paths here, you'll spot common woodland birds, butterflies if you time it right in summer, and enough wild flowers to make a botanist perk up. It's small enough that you won't need more than an hour, but perfectly formed for a morning before heading into town.

This works best for families with young kids who want a gentler introduction to nature reserves, or walkers wanting to string together a few local spots without committing to a full-day hike. The paths are flat and manageable, though nothing to write home about from a difficulty standpoint. Best visited April through September when there's actual life about; winter can feel a bit thin.

If you're staying at Severnside Boat & Caravan Park nearby, it's worth tacking on as a short stop rather than a reason to drive out specially. Free to wander around, no facilities that I could find, so come prepared. The reserve sits conveniently close to Cheltenham's town centre if you fancy combining it with shops, cafes, or the town's proper attractions. Not revolutionary, but a pleasant way to tick off a bit of greenspace without faffing about.
