Grey Mare´s Waterfall Entrance

The walk to Grey Mare's Waterfall takes you up through proper Highland scenery - dense pine forest giving way to open moorland as you gain height above Kinlochleven. The waterfall itself is a thundering ribbon of white water that drops dramatically over a rocky outcrop, best visited after rain when it's genuinely impressive rather than a trickle.

It's a straightforward hike, around two hours there and back from the car park, and well-suited to families with older kids or anyone after a proper leg-stretcher without needing scrambling skills. The path can be boggy underfoot, so decent boots matter. Go in spring or autumn for the best light and fewer midges.

If you're camping or glamping at Blackwater Hostel just down the road, this makes an obvious morning outing before heading back for lunch. The views across Glencoe from higher up the path are worth the slog alone. Red Squirrel Campsite and Invercoe are both within striking distance if you're basing yourself in the area for a few days - the West Highland Way passes through, so you could string together several local walks.

Free to visit, no facilities at the waterfall itself, so bring water and snacks. The entrance is easy to find on the edge of Kinlochleven. It's not going to blow your mind if waterfalls aren't your thing, but as a straightforward outdoor activity it does the job well.
