Great Yorkshire Show

The Great Yorkshire Show rolls into Harrogate every July, and if you're anywhere nearby with a caravan or motorhome, you'd be daft to miss it. This is Yorkshire's biggest agricultural event - think livestock competitions, craft demonstrations, local food stalls, and the kind of rural entertainment that actually tells you something about how the region works rather than just selling you a postcard version of it.

The show sprawls across its showground with everything from sheep and cattle classes to craftspeople, falconry displays, and enough Yorkshire pudding to feed a small army. You'll see proper working dogs herding sheep, watch farriers shoe horses, and browse stalls selling everything from farm equipment to homemade jams. It's genuinely interesting whether you're rural by nature or just curious about where food comes from.

Families with kids get masses out of it - there are activities zones, petting areas, and enough going on that you won't hear the dreaded "are we done yet?" for at least four hours. Adults who enjoy countryside culture find it absorbing. If agricultural shows bore you senseless, though, don't force it.

Stay at Harrogate Caravan Park, just 0.1 miles from town, or Rudding Holiday Park if you want slightly more space. Both put you within easy reach of the showground and Harrogate's proper shops and restaurants. The show typically runs one day in mid-July - check dates closer to the time. Admission isn't free, but it's worth budgeting for.
