Great Hall

Leicester's Great Hall is the real deal if you care about medieval architecture and local history. Built in the 15th century, it's one of the few surviving structures from that era in the city centre, and stepping inside genuinely transports you back. The timber-framed ceiling alone justifies the visit - it's the sort of craftsmanship you don't see replicated these days.

The hall functions as both a working space and heritage attraction, so opening times can be a bit variable depending on what's on. Ring ahead before you go, because you don't want the journey from your caravan at Bradgate Park or Charnwood Acres only to find it's closed for an event. Admission is typically free or a small suggested donation, and you'll spend a good 30 to 45 minutes properly exploring it without rushing.

History buffs will eat this up. If you've got kids, it's less gripping unless they're already into medieval stuff - the novelty wears off fairly quickly for younger ones. But if you're staying at one of the local parks and have a spare hour, it's absolutely worth the short trip into Leicester itself.

Pair it with a wander around the nearby Cathedral Quarter or the Richard III Experience if you're making a proper day of it. Bradgate Park itself is only 4.7 miles away, so you could easily do both in one afternoon.
