Birdwatchers will spend a happy hour or two; the mix of habitats pulls in everything from woodpeckers to warblers depending on season.

Family groups with younger kids will get maybe 45 minutes out of it before the novelty of "muddy field" wears thin, but serious walkers or anyone into spotting birds should allocate a full couple of hours. The grassland sections can be properly boggy after rain, so decent footwear isn't optional.

It's the sort of place that slots nicely into a broader Cheshire ramble rather than a destination in itself.
