About Goyt Valley
What makes it work is the simplicity. Park near Derbyshire Bridge or Errwood Reservoir and you've got immediate access to footpaths that follow the water upstream, with the kind of views that justify the drive out from Manchester. The river genuinely does its own thing here, unlike some of the more managed bits of the Peak. Bring proper boots though; it gets muddy even after light rain, and the banks are steep enough that scrambling about becomes part of the appeal rather than a hazard.
Walkers will absolutely get their money's worth. This isn't a destination for dawdling - most people spend three to five hours exploring depending on how far they fancy going. Kids over seven or eight who can handle uneven ground will enjoy it; toddlers and prams, less so.
Stay at Buxton Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite just 2.7 miles away and you're positioned perfectly for morning walks here before hitting other Peak spots. Lime Tree Holiday Park sits only marginally further out. The valley works brilliantly as part of a wider Peak holiday rather than a standalone day trip, but it's atmospheric enough to warrant the effort even as a quick detour.
