Govel Hill

The walk up Govel Hill rewards you with proper views across Banffshire and out toward the coast. It's not a major peak - nothing that'll leave you gasping - but it's a solid half-hour push from the car park, and the landscape opens up nicely as you gain height. On a clear day you can see across farmland to the Moray Firth, which makes the effort worthwhile.

Walkers will appreciate this one more than casual strollers. The path is straightforward enough, but there's genuine elevation here, and it's best tackled in decent weather when visibility actually matters. Families with younger kids might find it a touch steep for what it is, though older children who enjoy a proper hill walk will get on fine.

You're looking at a couple of hours round trip if you take it steadily and pause for the view at the top. It's entirely free and accessible year-round, though winter can be muddy. The nearest town is Banff, which sits just a few miles away and makes a reasonable base if you're staying at one of the local caravan parks like Banff Links or Whitehills - both are within easy reach.

Best combined with other walks in the area rather than treated as a destination in itself. The north-east coast has plenty of coastal paths and other hills worth exploring, so factor this in as part of a longer ramble around Aberdeenshire rather than a standalone trip.
