Golden Nugget

The Golden Nugget sits just outside Great Yarmouth as one of those Norfolk landmarks that's been around long enough to feel genuinely part of the landscape. It's a large golden ball - yes, literally - that's become something of a local oddity over the decades. Not everyone gets it, and that's fine. Some find it kitsch; others reckon it's exactly the sort of thing that makes a seaside town memorable rather than generic.

You'll pull up, take a photo, maybe walk around it once. It doesn't demand hours of your time - this is a ten-minute stop, tops. Kids might find it amusing for about five of those minutes, depending on their tolerance for slightly baffling public art. The real appeal is the 'did we really just see that?' factor and the fact it makes a decent talking point over lunch back at your holiday park.

The surrounding area is pretty flat and unremarkable in the way that coastal Norfolk often is, so don't expect dramatic scenery. It works best as part of a broader drive around the area rather than a destination in itself. If you're staying at Haven Seashore, Haven Caister-on-Sea, or any of the other parks dotted along this stretch, it's close enough to swing by without adding much to your journey.

Free to look at, obviously. No opening hours to worry about. Go when you fancy. Worth the detour? Probably not on its own, but combined with a walk around Great Yarmouth's seafront or a visit to nearby attractions, it slots in perfectly.
