Gogway Dog Field

A sprawling open field just outside Canterbury where dogs can properly run themselves ragged without a lead in sight. Gogway Dog Field is exactly what it says on the tin - acres of proper countryside where your dog gets to be a dog, and you get to stand about with a coffee pretending you're not freezing.

The field itself is unremarkable in the best possible way. No fancy facilities, no Instagram moments, just grass and space and the sound of dogs doing their thing. It's the sort of place where Border Collies come to remember why they exist and Labradors come to forget they're supposed to be obedient. You'll find dog owners here who know what they're doing and those just letting their spaniel loose for the first time - the chaos is half the charm.

If you're staying at Hawthorne Trench Campsite just down the road, this is a godsend. Your dog gets exercise, you get peace, everyone wins. It's also close enough to Canterbury Camping and Caravanning Club Campsite that it won't eat into your day. Bring a ball, bring a friend, bring snacks. Allow a good hour minimum, longer if your dog's the sort that never comes back when called.

Families appreciate it because kids can run about too without anyone getting stressed. Walkers might find it a bit aimless unless they're dog people - there's no circular route, no views to write home about. This is functional rather than scenic. But if you've got a dog and you're camping nearby, it's worth knowing about.
