Godalming Minster started life as a parish church in the 1860s, and there's something rather satisfying about how unpretentious it feels for a building wearing such a grand title. The interior is light and airy - all soaring arches and decent stained glass - but it's the kind of place you pop into for twenty minutes rather than spend half an hour queuing.

What makes it worth a look is the craftsmanship on display. The woodwork is solid, the windows catch the afternoon sun properly, and there's a genuine sense of Victorian ambition about the whole thing. It's free to visit, which helps, and you won't find crowds - just the occasional local popping in between errands.

This works best as a breather between walking routes around Guildford rather than a destination in itself. If you're camping at Glamping Holiday or Care Ashore Campsite on the Springbok Estate - both a short drive away - it's an easy addition to a ramble through the town. Architecture types might linger longer; families with young children will find fifteen minutes about right before restlessness sets in. Go on a weekday morning if you want proper peace and light through the windows. There's no obvious car park right outside, so factor in a short walk from wherever you manage to squeeze in.
