Hundreds of garden gnomes line a stretch of woodland path near Mablethorpe, creating one of Lincolnshire's most bizarre roadside attractions. This unofficial collection has grown organically over the years as visitors add their own contributions to what's become a proper gnome village.

Walking through feels like stumbling into a fairy tale gone slightly mad. Gnomes of every size and description peer out from behind trees, cluster around makeshift houses, and occupy every available tree stump. Some are traditional red-hatted fishermen, others are painted in garish colours or dressed as characters from popular culture.

Children absolutely love the hunt for their favourite gnomes, though be warned - once you start looking properly, you'll be there longer than expected. It's the sort of place that divides opinion: some find it delightfully eccentric, others think it's a bit naff.

The whole thing takes about 30 minutes to explore properly, and there's no charge beyond whatever you might spend on fuel getting there. Best approached with a sense of humour rather than high expectations.

If you're staying at Haven Golden Sands or any of the other parks around Mablethorpe, it makes for a quirky pit stop before heading to the beach. Not exactly cultural enrichment, but kids will remember it long after they've forgotten which pier they visited.
