Glenoe Waterfall

The walk to Glenoe Waterfall takes you through proper beech woodland just inland from Larne, and it's one of those hikes that rewards you for showing up. The waterfall itself isn't massive - we're talking a decent cascade rather than Niagara - but the glen is genuinely lovely, especially after rain when the water's running fast and the whole thing feels urgent.

You'll want decent boots. The path gets wet and slippery underfoot, and there's a fair bit of scrambling near the base if you fancy getting closer to the water. Most people reckon on an hour round trip, though it depends how long you linger. The woodland's the real draw here - it's a proper woodland walk with the waterfall as the payoff at the end, not the other way round.

Families with older kids will manage it fine. Younger ones might find the muddy stretches tedious, and it's not a buggy-friendly route by any stretch. History types won't find much at the waterfall itself, but the walk gives you a sense of how the landscape shaped settlement in Mid and East Antrim.

Free to access, naturally. Go in spring when the water's high, or after heavy rain. Summer can make the woodland feel a bit gloomy and airless. If you're based at Down to Earth Wild Camping nearby, this is exactly the sort of walk that justifies glamping in the area - you're out in proper countryside within twenty minutes of leaving your tent.
