Glencoe waterfall

The waterfall thunders down the mountainside like something out of a film set, and frankly, it lives up to the hype. Located in Glencoe itself - proper dramatic Highland scenery - this is one of those spots where the postcard photos aren't lying. Water crashes over dark rock into a pool below, and on a grey day (which is most days) the whole thing feels genuinely wild.

Getting there involves a walk, but nothing that'll destroy your legs. The path is straightforward, well-trodden, and free to access. Allow 45 minutes to an hour depending on fitness and how long you want to stand about taking photos. Best visited after rain when the flow is properly impressive - in dry spells it can feel a bit modest.

Walkers will love this as part of a wider Glencoe exploration, though it's not a multi-hour commitment. Families with older kids will manage fine; younger ones might find the walk a touch tedious. The real appeal is how it fits into a Highland holiday rather than being a destination in itself.

Nearby Kinlochleven makes a decent base, and there's proper camping around here. Red Squirrel Campsite (4 miles away) has brilliant reviews and reasonable facilities. Blackwater Hostel's glamping is worth considering if you want something less traditional. The location puts you within striking distance of Ben Nevis and loads of other walks, so pair this with a wider exploration of the area rather than treating it as a standalone visit.
