About Glencarse Hill
The summit sits at just over 300 metres, so it's manageable for most fitness levels, though the path can get boggy in wet weather. On a clear day you can pick out the Ochil Hills to the north and the flatter agricultural land spreading east towards Fife. Walkers will appreciate the relative quietness - you won't be queuing for photos here.
It works well as a half-day excursion if you're staying at either Scone or South Valleyfield camping sites, both within easy striking distance. The Scone site is your best bet if you've got a tent, since South Valleyfield doesn't take them. Allow two to three hours total if you're taking your time and want a proper break at the top.
Families with older kids will find it fine, though younger ones might struggle with the trudge. It's the kind of walk where the destination matters more than the scenery en route - fairly unremarkable woodland for much of the way up. Go early morning or late afternoon if you can, especially in summer. The light's better and you'll actually have the place to yourself.
