George's Plantation

George's Plantation is a proper forest walk in Herefordshire - the kind of place where you can disappear into the trees for an hour or two without seeing another soul. It's woodland through and through: dense in places, open in others, with decent paths that make it accessible without being boring. You're looking at mixed woodland with the sort of quiet that actually feels rare these days.

Walkers will get the most from this. It's not a destination with car parks and visitor centres - it's a genuine bit of forest that rewards you for making the effort. Kids aged eight and up would enjoy it if they're the rambling type, but don't expect playgrounds or themed trails. Bring proper boots if there's been rain; the ground can get boggy.

Spring and autumn are the best times - summer can feel a bit muggy under the canopy, and winter's when you notice how many fallen branches there are.

The county's got plenty of forest, so George's Plantation works as part of a wider walking holiday rather than a day trip destination on its own.
