Gardenmore Presbyterian Church

The tiny Presbyterian kirk sits in open countryside just outside Larne, a no-fuss sort of place that most tourists drive straight past. Built in 1835, it's the real deal - simple, austere, properly Scottish in its stonework and complete lack of decoration inside. The graveyard around it tells you more about the area than any heritage plaque ever could, full of weathered headstones and local names that repeat across generations.

This is one for people who actually care about religious architecture and local history, not Instagram aesthetics. There's no visitor centre, no gift shop, no information boards explaining what you're looking at. You turn up, you look at it, you sit in the yard if the weather's decent. The church isn't always open, so plan accordingly - your best bet is asking locals in Larne itself or checking with the Presbyterian Church in Ireland ahead of time.

If you're staying at Down to Earth Wild Camping nearby, it's a pleasant fifteen-minute walk through proper countryside to get here, which adds to the appeal. Don't block out hours though. Twenty minutes inside, another twenty in the graveyard, and you've seen everything there is to see. It works best as part of a wider wander around Mid and East Antrim rather than a destination trip on its own. Worth the detour if you're already in the area exploring the coast around Larne.
