Garden Wood

Garden Wood is a proper forest walk just outside Keswick - the sort of place you stumble into thinking you'll be out for twenty minutes and somehow lose two hours. The woodland here is thick and genuine, old enough to feel like it's been minding its own business for centuries while everyone else crowds into the lakes nearby.

It's genuinely excellent for families who want something less steep than the fells but more interesting than a car park stroll. Kids will find enough fallen logs to clamber over and natural climbing challenges without it turning into a scramble up scree. The canopy does proper work in summer heat too - you'll notice the temperature drop the moment you're in among the trees. Walkers after some peace and quiet should come early, before the Keswick day-trippers filter out this way.
