Game of Thrones - Robb's camp at Moat Cailin

The muddy banks of Dundrum Bay don't look much like Westeros at first glance, but this is where HBO filmed Robb Stark's encampment in Game of Thrones - specifically the scenes at Moat Cailin. You won't find any sets standing anymore; what you get instead is the actual landscape that made the cut, a proper tidal estuary with marshland and those brooding Northern Irish skies that made the show's cinematography so effective.

It's genuinely atmospheric if you're a serious fan. The real appeal is standing where the cameras were positioned and understanding why the location scouts chose it. The geography itself - hemmed in by water and bog - tells you everything about why Robb's position felt so militarily precarious in the story. Casual viewers won't find much beyond a nice walk, but if you've watched the series, the recognition hits different.

Downpatrick sits about ten miles south and makes a sensible base. The bay itself is free to access and accessible year-round, though winter brings the best light for that brooding atmosphere the show captured so well. Budget forty minutes to an hour if you're actually there for the GoT connection; longer if you fancy a proper coastal walk. Not something to make a special journey for unless you're deep into fandom, but brilliant if you're already holidaying in County Down.
