Furzy Cove

The beach at Furzy Cove sits just south of Bude, tucked away enough that you won't find it heaving with tourists even in July. It's a proper Cornish cove - steep cliffs on either side, golden sand, rock pools worth poking about in when the tide's out. The walk down takes maybe five minutes from the car park, and it's not too brutal on the legs.

What makes it work is the seclusion without being inaccessible. Families with young kids will appreciate how contained it feels - the cliffs shelter you from wind, and there's a decent stretch of sand for building castles. Swimmers and paddleboarders use it regularly enough that you won't feel odd turning up in a wetsuit. The rock pools are the real draw for children; starfish, anemones, the usual suspects if you time it right around low tide.

You're looking at a couple of hours here comfortably, maybe three if the kids are properly absorbed. It's not the kind of beach where you'll want to park yourself all day - the cliffs mean the sun shifts early. Summer afternoons can get crowded, so a morning visit makes sense. The nearest facilities are back in Bude itself, about two miles north.

Stay at Wooda Farm Holiday Park just down the road and you've got easy access here alongside the bigger beaches around Bude. Atlantic Horizons further out works too if you want a bit more space. This cove pairs well with exploring Bude's town beach or heading to Widemouth Bay - gives you proper variety across a week.
