Furzton Lake

The lake itself is the draw here - a proper expanse of water that catches you off guard if you're not expecting it on the Milton Keynes side of things. It's a working water reservoir, so don't expect the sort of manicured leisure lake you might find elsewhere, but that's precisely what makes it feel genuine. The walking route around it is decent enough, taking a couple of hours at a leisurely pace, and the paths are well-maintained without being over-engineered.

Walkers will get the most from this one. Birdwatchers come for the herons and the occasional rarer visitor. Families with young legs will find it manageable, though there's not much in the way of facilities or attractions once you're here - it's really about the walk and the views across the water. The route passes through decent woodland stretches and opens up nicely at various points along the shore.

Access appears to be free and unrestricted, though it's worth checking locally as these things can change. Go early or late to avoid the afternoon dog-walker rush, and bring something waterproof - the wind funnels across that water and the weather can turn quickly. If you're staying at Gullivers Campsite or The Old Dairy Farm, both very close by, this makes a natural morning walk before heading elsewhere. It's not a destination in itself, but as part of a broader Milton Keynes-area break, it's a proper bit of breathing room away from the town centre.
