Furzefield Copse

The moment you push through the trees at Furzefield Copse, you're genuinely alone. No crowds, no carved initials on every trunk, just proper woodland doing what it does best - being quiet. It's a small forest near Petersfield, the sort of place locals clearly know about and tourists walk right past.

You get a decent woodland walk here, nothing too ambitious, threading through beech and oak with the occasional carpet of bluebells depending on season. The ground's soft underfoot, which is either lovely or muddy as hell - visit in dry spells if you want to avoid the latter. There's no visitor infrastructure to speak of: no café, no loos, no interpretation boards telling you what tree is what. It's refreshingly bare-bones.

Walkers will appreciate this more than families with young kids, honestly. There's no playground, no obvious loops with benches at the halfway point, and bored children asking "are we done yet" will drain it of its appeal fast. But if you're after a proper forest wander between camp visits - say, while staying at Cedar Valley just down the road - it's excellent. The glamping sites nearby (Adhurst Yurts and Wallops Wood are both cracking) market themselves on access to nature, and this delivers that without any faffing about.

Allow a couple of hours if you're going to do it properly, longer if you're just wandering aimlessly. Best in spring or autumn when the light filters through differently. It's free, obviously, because there's nowhere to charge you.
