Frontier Land

Frontier Land is a Western-themed amusement park just outside Ventnor that's been operating since the 1970s. You get a proper old-school theme park experience here - think log flume, dodgems, and rides scattered across grounds designed to look like an American frontier town. The theming is charmingly ramshackle rather than Disney-polished, which is either its appeal or its drawback depending on what you want from a day out.

It's family territory, really. Young kids will have a whale of a time for a few hours - the rides are modest by modern standards but manageable for under-12s, and there's enough to keep them occupied without the complexity of a bigger park. Teenagers might find it a bit dated unless they're into retro attractions. The Western setting means there's something to look at beyond just the rides, though don't expect elaborate theming.

You'll need to check current opening hours and admission prices as these do shift seasonally on the Isle of Wight. Budget three to four hours if you've got young children, less if you're moving quickly between rides. Go mid-week in summer to avoid weekend crowds.

If you're staying at one of the nearby sites - Sibbecks Farm Glamping or Warren Hill Camp are closest at two to three miles away - it works as a rainy-day solution or a half-day activity. Pair it with a proper walk around Ventnor's seafront or venture to Appuldurcombe Gardens Holiday Park's area for something calmer afterwards. Don't expect cutting-edge thrills, but the kids will remember it.
