It's essentially a pocket forest, dense with mature trees and the kind of damp, shadowy undergrowth you'd expect from something that spends half its time waterlogged. You can walk the perimeter easily enough, though the paths get muddy and overgrown in patches, which is rather the point.

Families with young kids looking for something quick and different, walkers wanting a short detour off the Thames Path, and anyone with an interest in how riverside vegetation reclaims small bits of land. Birdwatchers should bring binoculars - the island attracts cormorants, herons, and various warblers depending on the season. Allow 45 minutes to an hour unless you're the type to sit about watching the water go past, which is honestly fair enough.

There's no visitor infrastructure here - no car park, no cafe, no entrance fee as far as anyone can tell. It's accessed from the Maidenhead towpath, so you're really treating it as a side mission rather than a destination in itself.
