Free Radicals

Free Radicals is a temporary art installation that appears each summer as part of Boomtown Fair, the electronic music and arts festival held just outside Winchester. It's not a permanent fixture you can visit year-round - rather, it's one of several immersive art experiences that transform the festival site into something halfway between a rave and an art gallery. The installation itself is a striking sculptural piece designed to provoke thought and interaction, changing how you see the landscape around it.

This is really for two types of people: festival-goers who've already committed to Boomtown's chaotic energy, or art enthusiasts willing to make the pilgrimage during the festival dates. If you're camping at The Spinney or Hookpit Farm during summer, you could combine a quieter caravan break with a night or two at the festival itself - it's only a short drive from both parks. That said, unless Boomtown Fair's your scene, don't make a special trip just for this. The art installation is genuinely worth seeing if you're there, but it only exists for a few weeks each year, and you'll need a festival ticket to access it.
