The Fraser Stone stands on Culloden Battlefield, a few miles east of Inverness, marking where Clan Fraser fell during the 1746 rising. This isn't a visitor centre with gift shops and interpretive panels. It's part of the larger Culloden site managed by the National Trust for Scotland, so you can wander the battlefield itself and find the clan stones scattered across the moorland. Each one tells you where a different group died. The Frasers were badly mauled that day, and their memorial reflects the quiet dignity of remembrance rather than any grand gesture.

History enthusiasts will absolutely get something from it, especially if you know the '45 story already. General visitors might find the windswept moor a bit bleak without context - it's not immediately obvious what you're looking at unless you've done your homework. Allow 30 minutes if you're just visiting the stone itself, longer if you're exploring the whole battlefield.

Stay at Ardtower Caravan Park, barely two miles away, and you can pop over on a morning walk before the light gets too low. The moorland can be muddy and exposed, so decent boots matter. Free to visit, obviously - it's a memorial, not an attraction.
