Fox Hill

Fox Hill isn't going to take your breath away - let's be honest about that straight away. It's a modest peak on the Surrey Hills, rising to around 590 feet, and if you're expecting dramatic vistas or proper mountain scenery, you'll be disappointed. What you actually get is a steady walk through woodland with patches of open heath where, on a clear day, you can see across the Weald towards the South Downs.

The walk itself is the draw here rather than any summit views. It's proper Surrey - gently rolling, well-trodden paths, the sort of place that locals use regularly rather than tourists queuing for photos. The terrain is manageable for families with older kids, though younger ones might find the climb tedious if the novelty wears off. Allow a couple of hours if you're doing the full circuit from nearby Woking.

It's free, naturally, and accessible year-round. Spring's lovely when the woodland floor comes alive, but winter can be muddy and a bit grim. The real value here is how it slots into a broader Surrey Hills ramble - combine it with walks at other local peaks or green spaces, and you've got a decent day out.

If you're basing yourself at Warren Farm Home Park or one of the other caravan sites dotted around the area, Fox Hill works as an easy morning jaunt. It won't be the highlight of your trip, but it's a solid, unpretentious bit of southern England. Don't expect anything special, and you won't be let down.
