Fox Covert

You won't find much fanfare about Fox Covert, and that's rather the point. This small woodland site sits just outside Tring in Buckinghamshire, the sort of place locals know and visitors stumble upon by accident while exploring the wider Chiltern landscape. It's a proper forest walk rather than a manicured nature reserve - dense trees, leaf litter underfoot, the occasional muddy patch that catches you unawares.

The appeal here is straightforward: woodland peace. There are footpaths threading through, good for an hour's amble if you're not rushing, better if you make it two. Kids who love climbing on logs and spotting wildlife will get something from it. Serious nature enthusiasts might find it a touch modest compared to larger Chiltern forests, but that's not really the draw.

Practically speaking, access appears to be free and unrestricted, though facilities are minimal - come prepared. The woodland works well as a leg-stretcher between other activities rather than a destination in itself. Best visited autumn through spring when the undergrowth thins and you're less likely to wade through chest-high nettles.

If you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots - Chiltern Yurts is closest at 1.6 miles, or Hill Farm Camping a bit further out - Fox Covert makes a gentle morning walk before breakfast or an evening wander as the light fades. Nothing spectacular, but honest woodland nonetheless.
