Folkestone Harbour Adventure Golf

Down by Folkestone Harbour, there's an 18-hole adventure golf course that does exactly what it says on the tin - keeps you occupied for a lazy afternoon without breaking the bank. The course winds around the seafront with views across the Channel, and the holes themselves have that cheerful tackiness you either love or find mildly irritating. Windmills, ramps, a few water features. Nothing revolutionary, but it works.

This is proper family territory. Young kids will happily spend an hour here, teenagers slightly less so unless they're competitive types. If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Varne Ridge is just over two miles away, or Greenhill Glamping if you want something more upmarket - it's an easy walk or short drive that fills a couple of hours without demanding much effort. Worth doing on an overcast afternoon when the beach itself feels less appealing.

The real draw is the location. You're right on the harbour with the sea at your back and Folkestone's regenerated seafront actually looking rather decent these days. It's not a destination in itself, mind you. This is a filler activity, the kind of thing you do because you're staying nearby and the kids need entertaining between fish and chips and gelato. But that's fine. Not every holiday needs a pilgrimage.
