Flydays - Sibson Aerodrome

The runway at Sibson cuts through flat Northamptonshire farmland like a scar, and on most weekends there's a decent chance you'll spot vintage aircraft buzzing about. Flydays is where serious aviation enthusiasts come to tinker, show off, and generally obsess over aeroplanes that shouldn't really still be airworthy but somehow are.

It's a working aerodrome, not a museum, which means you're watching real flying, not exhibits behind velvet ropes. The appeal depends entirely on where you sit on the plane-obsession spectrum. Hardcore aviators will lose entire afternoons here, chatting to pilots and watching Spitfires and Harvards come and go. Kids might manage an hour of entertainment unless they're already bitten by the flying bug. For everyone else, it's the sort of place you'd drive past from Stamford and think "oh, there's a thing" rather than plan a trip around.

Access and timing aren't always straightforward - this isn't a commercial visitor attraction with set opening hours and admission prices plastered online. Best to ring ahead or check what's happening on a particular weekend. If you're camping at Castle Farm Campsite nearby, it's an easy detour, though you might find yourself standing in a field watching tiny planes for longer than you'd anticipated. That said, there's something properly engaging about watching vintage aircraft do what they were built for, even if you arrived by accident.
