Flutters Hill

The walk up Flutters Hill rewards you with proper Surrey views - rolling countryside that stretches towards the Thames valley, the sort of thing that reminds you why the Home Counties aren't all commuter towns and garden centres. It's not a massive peak, but the climb from Chertsey is straightforward enough that families with older kids won't struggle, and the views from the top make it worth the trek.

This is a working landscape rather than a dramatic one. You'll see farmland, woodland edges, and on a clear day, decent sightlines across to the Weald. The hill itself is accessible year-round - muddy in winter, but nothing technical. Allow a couple of hours for a proper ramble if you're exploring the surrounding paths, though the summit itself takes 30-45 minutes from the road.

Walkers will get the most from this. It's not a destination for thrill-seekers or those after dramatic vistas - more suited to people who enjoy quiet countryside and don't mind that the view is pastoral rather than panoramic. Young kids might find it a bit dull unless they're already keen hikers.

Staying at Chertsey Caravan Park or the Camping and Caravanning Club Site puts you within easy striking distance. Both are within a couple of miles, so you can combine this with exploring the Thames-side walks and the nearby villages. Go early on weekends if you want to avoid the commuter crowd from London.
